BACKGAMMON - Summary
Backgammon is a classic abstract strategy game, played on a board by two players. The Backgammon equipment include 1 backgammon board, 30 Checkers - 15 of one color and 15 of another, 2 six-sided dice, 2 dice cups for rolling the dice and 1 six-sided doubling cube with the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 on the 6 faces. As to Backgammon board, it consists of 24 triangles (known as points) in alternating colors split up into four quadrants with six points in each quadrant. Each of Backgammon players has a home board and an outer board, which are divided by the bar - this is an elevated section on the board, where each hit checker is placed and can only be re-entered on a subsequent roll. Before the Backgammon action begins, checkers on the board are situated as follows two checkers on each player’s 24-point, five checkers on each player’s 13-point, three checkers on each player’s 8-point and five checkers on each player’s 6-point.
BACKGAMMON - Objective
According to the Backgammon rules, players move their checkers, following the numbers shown on the dice, and each player moves his checkers in the direction from his opponent’s home board to his home board. Once all player’s checkers are in his home board, he can start removing them from the board. The winner of Backgammon is the player, who is first to bear off all his checkers.
BACKGAMMON - Start Playing
In order to define who of the two players to start moving his checkers, each of them toss a single die. The Backgammon player, whose die shows higher number is the first to move his checkers using the number from both dice rolled to move his or her checkers. If it happens in a game of Backgammon the dice to show the same numbers, the players keep rolling their die until the get different numbers. After the first move, in all next moves Backgammon players gamble in alternate turns and roll two dice each time.
BACKGAMMON - Moving the Checkers
Backgammon Players always move the checkers forward around the board according to the numbers shown on the dice (pips) and there are four rules controlling the movement of checkers:
- The numbers on the dice suggest two separate moves of the Backgammon checkers, but if the player decides, he can use the full amount to move one checker.
- Backgammon player is allowed to move a checker to any point that is occupied by his own checkers or to a point that has max one of his opponent’s checkers on it.
- In a case when the numbers shown on the dice are the same Backgammon player may move double the amount shown.
- If it is legally possible Backgammon player must use the full roll, including doubles, if he is allowed to move only one checker, he must use the higher of the two numbers. In a case, the dice show double numbers, you must use as many of the four moves as possible.
